The story about our brand

“Why Falcon Group?” you must have wondered when hearing about us for the first time. We have had several interesting and sometimes funny comments and questions such as : Are you originally from the military aviation industry – referring to the F16 Falcon fighter jet ?

Are you into security ? It appears multiple companies around the world from Irak to the US have associated the noble bird to their activities as security or investigation companies.

Our story is inspired by something entirely different…

In the reCAPTCHA era where everybody needs to prove to be a human by entering a twisted and torsed set of random characters prior to be allowed to ask for a simple contact we felt the urge for being a bit more authentic.

Through our MBA – with specialization in marketing – we had been taught that people relate to brands if they find some emotional attachment to them and that succesful brands achieve a uniqueness that makes them stand out from the pack.

After trying to apply those concepts to the potential brand for the firm we came up with sterile and bland names to which we ourselves couldn’t really relate… So we radically changed direction and decided to keep it simple and authentic.

One of our earliest experiences in learning to motivate and stimulate people to work together and forge alliances and partnerships was between the age of 12 and 25 at the scouts. As in any youth organisation the driving force is the voluntary investment of time and effort of enthusiastic and idealistic young people ready to go the extra mile for making it happen. To help youngsters in discovering their strengths and weaknesses and provide them with an identity, a specific ritual had been applied ever since the inception of scouting by Baden Powell in 1922. This ritual was inspired by the American Indians who attributed the name of an animal to every youngster as a means to highlight specific traits of their personality as seen by the community.

My totem name is “Paarse Fiere Valk” meaning Proud Purple Falcon… This name was given to me (and not chosen by me) by the troop of scouts when I was 13 and 17 years old and therefore provided a very first assesment of how people experienced my personality.

I’m also passionate on finding the right balance between conceptual thinking and operational execution. One of those personal projects were I applied this was the renovation of our 300 year old farm in the Belgian Ardennes, together with the family and friends we designed and renovated the building into a pleasant and warm lodge which we now offer to families, groups of friends and enterprises. The notion of “bringing together” and creating the conditions for doing so is therefore something that comes back over and again in everything we do. Grouping those two activities under our brand makes sense for us… and hopefully for you.

So Falcon Group is referring to something very authentic. If you search the internet on the meaning of the totem falcon it could tell you something about me… which you are invited to explore in our next face-to-face encounter !
